So my co-worker comes in and tells me how he showed up at the rental car rental counter and did alright on a car rental. Ughhhh! Please don’t do this.
I don’t think showing up at the counter with no reservation is going to get you the best price, and why pay that high price? There are so many rental car codes and coupons out there to use. Why not at least use the coupon code that is $30 off a 5 day or more rental if you need the car a week.
Whenever I need to rent a car I start with Mousesavers website. They are AMAZING about keeping up on rental car codes and organizing the information so its user friendly. Its a Disney blog but the car rental codes work everywhere. http://www.mousesavers.com/transportation-for-disney-vacations/rental-car-discounts/
For our upcoming trip National was my first choice (and I like to pick my own car) using the Southwest contract id and the $25 off coupon. The rental with no codes or coupons would be $326.33 for a midsized. The Southwest code brought me down to $202.66 and with the added coupon its $171.44 total for a week. (5030346 and coupon ND3265FFC)
And I was also interested in Avis. Without a code its $327 for an intermediate car. $200.82 with the AWD code for Southwest and with the coupon code it went to $163.36. (MUWA118 and AWD K817167)
I also will book at what I think is a decent price and if I have time I check prices closer to my travel date. Often the price has gone down so I cancel and rebook at the lower rate.
