The Hare Brained Road Trip Continues – Milwaukee County Zoo

We had a zoo membership that has AZA reciprocal admission so we used the pass at the Milwaukee County Zoo.  We had stopped at the Jelly Belly Visitors Center in the morning so it was around noon when we arrived at the zoo. It was hot enough that we debated even going to the zoo or waiting for the next morning to visit. Since it was supposed to rain the next day we put on our sunscreen and hit the zoo.

Our admission was free for the three of us but parking was still $12.  IF we had paid admission is $14.25 for adults and $11.25 for kids ages 3-12.  We would have paid $51.75 for the three of us to visit the zoo, glad I paid $12.

As I said it was hot, so we alternated into buildings whenever possible.  In spite of the heat the animals were very active.

We stepped into buildings to break up the heat.

The hippo had the right idea, we needed to cool down somehow.

But we were so amused by the bears playing in the water that we didn’t want to tear ourselves away.  First he had the stick…Image

But then his friend wanted the stick…Image

And there was a little pushing to see who won…

But it was too hot, we couldn’t wait out their little spat to see who won.

The zoo is very large with a lot of animals, it took us almost 5 hours to see them.  We left just before the zoo closing at 5pm.  The zoo is right off the highway, or pretty much surrounded by I-94 / I-894 and very easy to access.

Would I go back? I think so.  I want to say yes, but we did see a few odd things from other people. (I know you cannot control or do anything about other people.)  I hope it was just the heat but two families were screaming at each other in the children’s Family Farm area.  It was almost funny, the arms were flapping and the adults were in each others faces.  Its the zoo, what could have possibly caused such a ruckus?  If we went back I would want to be there first thing in the morning.  Its a large zoo to cover, especially if its hot. Maybe its the paying $12 to park that has me feeling negative. I am not sure, we had fun but something isn’t making me hurry back.

  1. I adore your photographs of the animals at the Milwaukee Zoo. The bears swimming really were “cute”.

  2. So cool! Thanks for sharing!!! I would like to visit a zoo this summer with kids. 🙂

  3. Wonderful shots of the animals! Except the monkey at the top – they always look like they’re plotting to take over the world behind our backs. :-/

  4. This post was fun. your pictures are great, and your commentary is funny. I am featuring it at this week’s Tips and Tricks Linky Party over at http://www.eazypeazymealz.com. Come on over and link up again

  6. Fun post. I love to visit zoos when I travel. I think it’s a hint about how they “feel” about their city. No fun in the heat. I try to hit “my” zoo early in the morning and it is getting to be that time of year when early in the morning is too hot, too!

  7. These are really great images… love the one of the bears playing in the water

I always enjoy the monkey exhibits best. Something about their silly behaviors!
