Fort Moultrie on Sullivan’s Island near Charleston

We had time to kill over near Mt. Pleasant.  We drove over the Sullivan’s Island and saw Fort Moultrie and the beach. We arrived just before sunset and parked to the left of the fort. Fort Moutlrie is open from 9-5 daily and admission is $3 for adults, $1 for seniors. http://www.nps.gov/fosu/historyculture/fort_moultrie.htm

We also walked over the dune to the beach.  There is no swimming with signs warning of a rip current and a $1040.00 fine.  The amount made us laugh, why $1040?

Be forewarned, we passed several police officers watching traffic on the way to and from the island. The speed limit is 35 and we saw several people pulled over.

It would be interesting to visit during the open hours and go inside the fort to compare it to Fort Sumter.
