Get in, Get out! Get to Ed Debevic’s!

When we visit Chicago we have to eat at Ed’s.  I was first a young kid when I visited Ed’s on a Chicago trip with my cousin in the mid 80s.  It made an impression then and things have not changed over the years.  Now its Daughter’s favorite place to eat!

1

If you go at peak hours on the weekend expect to wait a few for an open table. We try to visit around 11am or after 1:30pm.

2

You are given a paper hat, once you know what you want to order put it on and expect some grief!

Sassy servers might be an understatement but its so fun even if they do throw straws at you!

3

On busy Saturdays we have seen a person making balloon animals or hats for a tip.  This helps kill time while you wait for your food.

4

And randomly the servers get up on the bar or in the windows to dance to songs like Carwash.

My favorite here is the Kitchen Sink Nachos! It is messy and requires more napkins than any other item I can remember eating!

Kitchen Sink Nachos

Corn tortilla chips, covered with Ed’s award-winning chili, cheddar cheese sauce, Ed’s special Atomic Mix*, sour cream,
our unique guacamole, shredded cheddar cheese, and tomatoes. Substitute BBQ pork, chicken or veggie chili for 50¢.  $10.30

Bacon Cheeseburger

Cheddar cheese topped with thick strips of bacon. Served with shredded lettuce & tomato. Served with Fries. $10.40

Double Chocolate Milk Shake

Twice the Chocolate! $5.60

The food isn’t cheap. Usually by the time we eat its $30 but its an experience that is truly Chicago to us! We have had a couple of guests with us that did not enjoy the banter but we love the sass that they serve up.

  1. Interesting. I think there’s a hot dog place in Chicago where the staff hurl insults at you, too. I’m not sure whether I’d like being sassed or not. Seems like there are plenty of people to dish it out, though. (Pun intended.) 🙂

  2. What a fun looking place! 🙂

Thanks for joining the Link Up this week!

  3. Thanks for sharing this at the Say G’day Saturday Linky Party. Hope you can join us again this weekend.

    Best wishes,

  4. Places like that are definitely not for the meek and mild. Or, the easily annoyed. LOL.
