Visiting Bonaventure with Dash

Since I was going back to Savannah I was going to make it a point to do a couple of things Husband vetoed the last time.  I am happy to say I was able to do both items that were vetoed and one of those was to tour Bonaventure Cemetery.

For various reasons Husband did not want to drive out here last time and take a tour.  Not high on his list of fun things to tour a cemetery.  I have always thought this cemetery was fascinating in pictures and I wanted to learn more about the history and symbolism.  I turned to my favorite TripAdvisor to see what my options were.  A few people do tours out at Bonaventure that had good rating but the one with the best ratings also drives you out there. Sold!

I booked a couple of weeks out with Dash tours.  They offer a 10am and a 2pm tour.   Several had suggested the earlier tour might be lower in temperature so that was the tour I wanted.  Sunday at 10am was sold out, they have a limit of 12 guests on the tour.  But the Saturday 10am had openings.  Adults are $25 and kids 6-16 are only $15 for the tour including driving you out to Bonaventure.  I was called by Tim about an hour before our tour to confirm our pick up location.  He was able to pick us up right at the hotel at 9:50, and he was right on time!

It was a quick twenty minutes to the cemetery and Tim told us more information on Savannah along the way.  At Bonaventure he offered bug spray and cold water.

We took time hearing about the markers and memorials in the cemetery as we walked.  We learned about Grace and why gifts are left on her grave.  The monument is said to be a very life like resemblance of the girl from 1889.

Our guide tried to put us in the shade whenever possible as he spoke.  And the cold bottled water helped but I would still suggest taking the earlier tour like we did.

I have never seen a cemetery like this one! We could have spent all day roaming and learning about all the markers.

The two hour tour passed very quickly.  Tim asked each tour participant where they wanted to be dropped off.  Some at their hotel and we were dropped at the river front for lunch at a place he suggested around 12:30.
