I had been able to visit this church on our first visit. While wandering one day Daughter and I walked past it but it was closed for a wedding. She wanted to step inside so on Saturday we walked over from Foley House Inn to peek inside. Daughter was imagining how beautiful it had to be inside decorated for a wedding.
This time I was surprised to see a police officer standing just inside the interior doors observing the tourists. Sad that this might be what our world has come to. Not sure if this is all the time but it was a Saturday afternoon.

Touring the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
The church is open for self-guided touring Monday-Saturday – 9:00 A.M. – 11:45 A.M and 12:45 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.
A small donation of $2.00 per adult is appreciated.
The Cathedral is an active house of worship. Guided and self-guided tours are not allowed during Masses or other religious events. The church is closed for touring during funerals and weddings. The church is closed for touring on most Holy Days, such as Good Friday.
This church is impressive whether you are Catholic or not, its beautiful! One thing I never noticed is it does not have the “church” smell that often permeates older churches and missions. Daughter pointed it out and that might be due to its recent renovation in 2000.
