Saravilla Bed and Breakfast in Alma

Daughter was invited to a scholarship interview at Alma College.  If you are not familiar with the area you will quickly find out Alma is a very small town. There are no chain hotels, just a couple of old Mom and Pop places. Mount Pleasant is a larger town with several chain hotels but it is over twenty minutes from the college in good weather.   The only real option for us with the impending snow was to stay at Saravilla Bed and Breakfast.

Terra Nova Bed and Breakfast in Grove City

We have previously stayed at the Terra Nova Bed and Breakfast back in 2016.  We found the two room Collegiate Suite to be perfect for family travel.  This year when my Daughter was doing an overnight visit at Grove City College I invited my Mom to travel with us.  It can be so boring to travel alone and it is nice to have someone awake in the car to keep me company as I drive the hours to Pennsylvania.

Once again I was able to book the Collegiate Suite for our stay.

Another Stay at Foley House Inn

Since we were using airline miles/credit and hotel points I told Daughter I would be able to grant her request to stay in a bed and breakfast.  Oh the choices!  There are so many great room options in Savannah.  You need to start your search early because a few weeks out some places were booked solid.

I wanted to be futher from the river to show her a quieter side of Savannah. I really teettered with booking a superior king room with the balcony facing Broughton Street at the Marshall House.  And then there was the Eliza Thompson House and Kehoe House that looked amazing.  I was looking for a balcony and a king sized bed or two queens.

Ultimately I went back to Foley House Inn for its central location. Also Husband and I had such a nice stay a couple of years back.  They had the Westmorland room available which is on the third floor with a balcony over looking Chippewa square.  After Daughter found the E. Shavers Bookstore she spent even more time on the balcony reading her new book.  We had stumbled upon the book store on our way to the Cathedral during tour hours.

Terra Nova Night in Grove City

Our last night of the trip was in Grove City, Pennsylvania. To this point all of our hotel nights had been free on points so I chose to spend money on a night at a Bed and Breakfast.  There are a few hotels outside of town near the outlets. Comfort Inn, Best Western, Super 8 and a Holiday Day Inn Express. The Holiday Inn Express is 30,000 points or $159.16 a night which did influence my choice of lodging.

I booked the Terra Nova house based on its great reviews and the location. Ryan gave us directions to dinner at Nonni’s and to the campus for in the morning when we checked in.  He gave us a quick house tour and showed us to the third floor for the Collegiate suite.

Oliver Inn South Bend Girls Weekend

We made a last minute decision to go to South Bend a night early and stay at the Oliver Inn. I was not sure how Daughter would like a Bed and Breakfast so I wanted to show her the rooms and let her pick.  i liked the location of the inn and I had read that breakfast is amazing!

We arrived on Friday night a little before 6pm.  They have several parking spaces on property and I like not having to park in the street like some inns.  The carriage house is in the back of the property that would be perfect for a family or two couples to share.

Alice gave us a tour of the house and told us about breakfast.  I loved the butlers pantry that left the snacks up to us. Several inns have a set dessert time that we often miss as we are out touring.  It was nice to grab a cupcake before bed to savor and a drink.

We enjoyed the details of the stately home.  There is a chair lift if needed for guests. And the staircase is beautiful!

We spent some time reading in the library. Daughter had some new books she had taken along because she was dying to finish the series.

We saw a couple of the other rooms. This first one was the one I was leaning towards reserving.  It seemed girly and I thought she would enjoy it. I think its so pretty!

And the room she chose was Gertrudes Dressing room.  The closet is amazing! What woman would not want a built in 3 way mirror?

The reason Daughter chose this room? The whirlpool bathtub!  We each took a turn in the tub with a good book relaxing!

Daughter was hooked on this bed and breakfast stay.  She has asked where else can we stay in one?  And this was before breakfast!

Breakfast was served between 9 and 9:30 in the dining room.  We were treated to juice, chocolate croissants, scones and fresh fruit.

We sat with a family with a younger daughter so it was nice to see another kid at the bed and breakfast.  We were then served Green Eggs n Ham pizza.  I wondered how Daughter would react but she dove in and loved it.  The egg ran over the “pizza” made of pesto and ham. It was so delicious!  She ate every bite and still talks about how good it was.

We would recommend the Oliver Inn to anyone.  The carriage house is kid friendly. Several rooms are very romantic with two person whirlpool tubs.  And a few are perfect for Mother and Daughter weekends.

Searching for a Romatic Night in Savannah

We are planning travel to Savannah for a kid free long weekend, and I want to make it as romantic as possible.  The historic area, the parks, fountains and mossy trees all scream romance to me. Husband even said he would be up for a Bed and Breakfast stay, pretty much a green light for whatever I book.  Its been fun trying to narrow down our last nights stay location. Some of the places look like a little too floral and over the top, some look a lot like my bedroom at home so I am still looking for the one that is just right.

In my mind I would love a huge canopy bed with a whirlpool, dark walls and some great antiques. Maybe a sitting area optional?  I found sleigh beds, brass beds and four poster.  I found palm trees, armors, and lots of pillows. I didn’t think the search would be this hard.

I love this one but no whirlpool tub or even a soaking tub…

For the option of a whirlpool tub in Savannah I found the following locations:

  • Gastonian
  • Catherine Ward House Inn
  • Ballastone Inn
  • Azalea Inn
  • Forsyth Park Inn
  • McMillian Inn
  • Foley House Inn
  • Old Savannah Inn
  • Hamilton Turner Inn

This is not what I am looking for…. gardenia-sidegal-4

But this is much more like it… A whirlpool tub and a soaking tub in the same bathroom.  I might be in love with this room at the Old Savannah Inn!
