We took our annual Christmas vacation last week. I guess its annual now that we were discussing where we were going next year on Christmas night. This years destination was middle Texas. Husband wanted seafood and beach. I wanted BBQ and the kid is along for the trip.
We flew in Saturday afternoon to Austin. I had two night reserved in Austin starting Sunday that could not be adjusted since they were booked in April under the second night free policy. I really needed a place to sleep and did not want to use many points for it.
I used the hotel reward mapper site and found a Residence Inn in Round Rock that is only 15,000 points a night for a one bedroom. A little leg work on Tripadvisor showed me there was enough to do in the area for 24 hours before moving onto Austin.
We stumbled upon the oldest standing building in D.C. built in 1765.
The house is now managed by the National Park Service and open for walk through visits.
We spent the afternoon poking around Georgetown. What an amazing area!!!! The leaves were starting to subtly change colors and it was a nice warm afternoon.
We had to check out the Georgetown campus for Daughter.
We did a little shopping and a lot of window looking. I was not expecting the high end Kate Spade type stores, very fun. And we enjoyed the mix of tea stores, sports shops and cupcake places.
Then we did some strolling along the canal.
We definitely would love to spend more time in the area!
I love to seek out cupcakes or macaroons when on vacation. Each place has its own twist and it gives you a local glimpse. For this trip I wanted to try Baked and Wired in Georgetown.
Other places try to claim the local fame but we had only time to try one on this trip. Baked and Wired was easy to find and we waited in a short line of 10 people on a Thursday afternoon to pick out our treats.
The choices!!!!! Daughter is not a huge cupcake fan so she got a peanut butter brownie. it was so large she only ate half that day. I chose a red velvet cupcake with perfect cream cheese frosting! Frosting is important and most places get it too sweet! I also took an OMG for later that was graham cracker crust, marshmallow and chocolate like a s’more. Sister took a Blondie for later and a coconut cupcake she called amazing!
We sat on the cute little cafe chairs outside on the walk to enjoy our treats. It was a perfect break and Daughter also enjoyed a hot chocolate from the coffee shop inside.
If you are in Georgetown walk over, I wish they were closer to our home!!!!!
