Blackbeards on the Beach

I hunt through Groupon almost daily for weeks before a trip.  I hit paydirt when I saw a Groupon for Blackbeards on the beach.  It had good reviews and was right in back of our hotel.

With the time difference we tend to be in restaurants a bit earlier than usual but that also means no wait for a table.  And our waitress was very attentive, she was really good!

We came for seafood so Husband had to start with oysters.

I had something else in mind, a huge frozen margarita!  I just had to walk back to the hotel through the parking lot so why not? Everything is bigger in Texas!

Austin Zoo

Our family enjoys visiting zoos in other states, you never know what you are going to find.  In Florida most zoos offer a water feature type playground.  In the Midwest its the standard child’s petting farm that we see.  In Austin the highlight was the animal feedings.

I purchased a Groupon for admission for two to the zoo and assumed we would pay for Daughter once we arrived.  Someone had a Groupon for more than their party and it was shared with us.  Very nice and appreciated!

Austin Zoo is a rescue zoo and many of the animal plaques tell you not only about the animal but where they were before coming to the Austin zoo.  While it might not have all the normal zoo animals it offers a great variety!  Lots of monkeys and less reptiles, works for me!

I scour Groupon to save money on dining when we travel.  Really I save on dining to give us ice cream or late night dessert money as you can tell from reading some of my posts. One place caught my eye because it was not only near our Airbnb rental but it also had food I knew Daughter would like.

Fuel, Recharge Yourself.  They offer a full menu under 500 calories.  I didn’t really care, i just want delicious food.  We stopped in here Sunday after hearing Mass for dinner.  They offered outdoor seating and indoor.  We chose indoor by a window to watch the masses leave town.

Sun on the Beach for Breakfast

Some food experiences stick with us for years.  Breakfast at Sun on the Beach is one of those experiences, Daughter said it was like “Joe’s but for breakfast!”  (Joe’s is legendary in this family for seafood lunches.) We were so impressed we tried to get Husband to go back the next morning.

I found Sun on the Beach through Groupon.  I paid $12 for my Groupon for $20.  I figured they would be closed on Christmas and they were. But we visited them the day after while Husband was relaxing at the hotel.  He is not much of a breakfast person.

We arrived a little before 9 and the place was packed. We found two stools at the bar instead of waiting for a table. A few minutes later the line was getting quite long for a table.

The menu had so many savory options, that was nice to see.  Shrimp and grits, Cajun fried crab and filet and eggs.  I love crepes so I was very excited to see several crepe options.

Daughter was excited by the whipped cream pile on her french toast and hot cocoa.  She was almost licking the plate.  She ate everything!!!!! The portions were huge.  My wild berry crepes were so delicious!

Our total was $20.25 before our Groupon.  We couldn’t have done that if we tried to hit $.25, too funny!

We loved Sun on the Beach.  We will eat here again, it was so good!  We would like to try it for lunch sometime but breakfast was outstanding!

Papa Vito’s Italian Goodness

I love to purchase Groupons for our vacations. (Anything I can do to save some money!)  Husband wanted seafood mainly on our trip but I sneak in some other deals when i can for breakfast or lunch.  I picked up Papa Vito’s Groupon because if we were delayed in arriving they were open later and offered pizza for a quick meal.

Luckily our flights were on time and a little after 6pm we left for Papa Vito’s.  Its a five minute drive from the hotel and we were surprised how packed it was on a Monday night.  This place was busy!!! Our waiter was quick and the food wait was not too long.  We munched on delicious garlic knots while we waited.  The large pizza pieces looked so good but we went with entrees instead.

White Apron Sandwich for Lunch

I like to use Groupons for food whenever possible.  Before our DC trip I found a Groupon that would work for lunch on our museum day.  White Apron Specialty shop serves up hearty sandwiches and is less than half a mile from the American History Museum.

For $13 we received two sandwiches, two bags of chips and two drinks.  The initial plan was to share this between three people.  (And we easily could have, the sandwiches were large.) But in the end we purchased an extra sandwich and shared the rest.

Daughter ordered the Brooklyn, I had the turkey Provencal and Sister ordered the Bronx sandwich.  All were on huge sliced baguette with loads of toppings. Ordering was very quick!  We snagged one of the last tables as it was pretty busy at 12:30.  Lots of professionals grabbing lunch!  All of us enjoyed our sandwiches and would return again!

SS American Victory Mariners Museum

I often use Groupon to save on vacation experiences.  When I saw that the American Victory ship was next to the Florida National Aquarium I new we could squeeze in a visit!  So I purchased a Groupon for $5 for two adult admissions.  We left our car in the aquarium lot after our visit and walked next door to the ship.

The Victory is a fully functional WWII ship. The ship is 455 feet long and was launched in May 1945 and spent its time carrying cargo to Europe and then to South Vietnam.
