Eggy’s Chicago for Breakfast

Unfortunately this past time at the Radisson Blu we did not upgrade and have breakfast in the lounge while in Chicago. I do love their chocolate croissants but it was time to try something new.   We could see Eggy’s Diner from our hotel room to the lower right and we wanted to try it for breakfast.

It was a short walk around half the block to the entrance behind the hotel.  And I thought the menu looked cute. They also look to have a great lunch menu and shakes!

Daughter was wooed by the cinnamon roll pancakes.  And I went with the red velvet french toast special.

Both of our breakfasts were amazing! We were stuffed for the morning and ready to hit the train to head back home.  We both want to go back to Eggy’s not only for breakfast but for a burger and a shake.

New Club Carlson Promo and the Bad News….

I have been a huge Club Carlson fan for a long time.  They were my program of choice for many years, sorry to say it looks like that is changing….  Friday some bloggers discovered bad news from Club Carlson that made me rethink my travel plans.  The 2nd day free bonus on points ends May 28th.  😦

Now they have announced a new promo that offers triple points through June 28th.  I would normally be excited, but now that my one night in Chicago will be 50,000 points and not my two night weekend I am not feeling the love.  A new promo does not make me feel better.

And now I have a short window to plan my travel for the rest of the year when I do not yet have sports schedules, etc.  Not good times for the planner in me.  I don’t know right now where I want to spend Christmas or Daughters fall break.  So I am moving programs again, most likely back to Marriott for my earnings.

Using Points for Radisson Blu Business Class Stays

I might have created a monster… Daughter has a love for the hotel business class lounge.  What is not to love?  Sprite in cute little bottles available all day.  Pastries with breakfast.  Snacks at dinner time.  Nuts and popcorn to snack on.  Its a child hotel dream!

On the flip side I refuse to pay that much for a hotel room, even if it does give me snacks and drinks! This is where Club Carlson points are a huge asset and the credit card is priceless if you have it!

We had a Suite Stay at the Radisson Blu Chicago

Our latest stay at the Radisson Blu Chicago was in a suite.  To say Daughter was happy was an understatement, she was running around taking more pictures than I was. (I think she even emailed some to her friends.)  It was very spacious in the couch area and there was also a large desk to work at.

The suite opens to this view

Daughter wanted to sleep on the couch instead of sharing the king bed. (And then she had her own tv for the night even though we watched the same show.)

Image

The bathroom entry is from the bedroom. Great if there is just you and your honey, awkward if your kids or someone else travels with you.  And there is not a bedroom door if that is important for your privacy.

Image

I do love the bathroom. I have said it before but I love to soak in the tub and I love the colors they used on the room.  Tub on the left, toilet and shower on the right. Image

The king size bed took up most of the room but with a separate seating area its not an issue. The balcony entrance is also from the bedroom area.

Image

The view from our room was looking out toward Millennium Park. I love the views this hotel offers!

Image

And back toward Lake Michigan, this room has a very large balcony.

And the coffee maker with our welcome gift.

We were also given access to the business lounge for evening snacks and breakfast in the morning.  That area was busier than our last visits so I did not take any pictures up there.

We ate dinner at Filini in the hotel.  Our booth seating was nice but a bit dark. I ordered the Fettuccine and it was outstanding!  Not the heavy cream dish that is served elsewhere. And the poached egg on top was a interesting mix, I am going to try the dish at home for the family.  Daughter ate the kids Homemade Penne Pasta, she loved it.  Dinner was served with a mix of breads on our table.  Our server was very attentive and helpful with the ordering. Everything was delicious and we will definitely eat here again when we stay at the hotel.

It was such a nice warm evening we were able to walk to Navy Pier from the hotel instead of grabbing a cab.  And the hotel is very close to the Millennium Park train station, around a 3 block walk.
