Days Inn Mattress Run

Recently I made a mattress run to finish out a Wyndham promotion at a Days Inn in Holland, Michigan.  What is a mattress run?  Its a cheap quick stay to optimize a points or status promotion with a hotel group.  The Days Inn was cheap and I spent roughly an hour at the hotel.

Wyndham Rewards Offer

Our biggest offer ever

Earn up to one free night at any of our 8,000+ hotels worldwide when you stay twice.* Register and book by June 30, 2018 and complete your second qualified stay by July 1, 2018 to get 15,000 bonus points that you can redeem for a free night* at Super 8, Ramada, Wyndham Grand, and more.

Not a Wyndham Rewards member? You can still book your stays now and register for the offer later.

*15,000 Wyndham Rewards points are good for one standard bedroom per night, subject to availability, blackout dates/rates and other restrictions.  Resort fees apply at Caesars hotels, even for award nights, and cannot be paid with points. See Promotion Terms & Conditions for additional information.

Stay twice for 15,000 points is a good promotion if you have lower cost hotels to book to earn the points.  Many Wyndham family hotels in our area are from $65 – $85 a night.

We have used Wyndham rewards points two ways.  #1 any hotel is 15,000 points so we cashed in 15,000 points for a night at the Mills House in Charleston.  Over the weekend rates can be around $270 so I was happy to use points instead.  #2 is a points and cash option.  We did this over Christmas break to spend three nights on Fort Myers Beach. 3,000 points and cash gave us a great vacation for a little money out of pocket.  Rooms again were running $270+ a night.  I do not have that kind of money to throw at a hotel room so I was thrilled to use points to offset the price.

Super 8 Pigeon Forge

We recently spent a week in Tennessee this June.  To try to keep our trip lower cost I used hotel points for many of the nights we were on the road.  The Super 8 Pigeon Forge on Emert had good reviews and is in a good location.

If you have never been to Pigeon Forge I would describe to people as the Wisconsin Dells on steroids.  OMG!  Miles of mini golf, go carts, dinner shows and entertainment.  While there is a cheap/free (depending) trolley system this area is really not that walk able as things are spread out vs Gatlinburg.  I do not like to drive all over, I would rather walk to dinner so I was pleased to see our hotel was within two blocks of the Old Mill Restaurant.

If you do not walk to drive anywhere or really walk the hotel is behind Wendy’s, Arby’s, Ihop, Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins, etc.  I would recommend you make the short walk to  The Mill and so did the sweet lady who checked us in.

The Super 8 has exterior hall ways and four floors with an elevator.  I had the option of booking a standard king room or a king room with a jacuzzi tub and fireplace.  No thinking needed there, I want the tub!

Our fourth floor room was very spacious.  It offered a sofa pullout bed near the door.

The Mills House – Wyndham Grand Hotel

I can watch people glaze over when I tell them to save those hotel points and miles.  Over time they do pay off!  Wyndham previously was an under used program for me.  It seemed to take forever to earn enough points for a decent hotel stay.  But then they changed their program for the better and I was happy to take advantage of the change.  All their hotels redeem at 15,000 points.  You read that correctly!  The Days Inn is 15,000 points as is the Super 9, Ramada or Wyndham Grand locations.

The Mills House was not on on my radar, I was hitting all my hotel programs to hopefully find a hotel close to Charleston. But when I searched Wyndham and saw the Mills House I was a little excited.  I remembered walking past the courtyard of this hotel back in 2014 and thinking it was a nice looking place in a great location!

So I quickly booked our Sunday evening in Charleston here for 15,000 points.  The average rate would have been $179 plus tax for our Sunday night. On weekends the rooms run $279 so this is a great place to redeem Wyndham points in my book!  Then I had an unexpected surprise in my email that I would be receiving a code for my “Go Free Plus Award from Wyndham” seven days before check in.  I was not sure what that meant at the time so I tucked the email in with my other trip notes.  Ends up when you book a Go Free Plus hotel they send you a discount code for $10 off a local attraction.

Parking is either valet or self parking is the attached garage on Queen street at $23 a day.  We easily found the parking garage and used the second floor bridge to enter the hotel. Taking the bridge allows you to pass the pool and pool side rooms.

Check in was quick and very friendly.  She gave us two food vouchers for use at the hotel which were much appreciated and unexpected!

Our two queen room was on the seventh floor and beautifully decorated.

The Mills House is two short city blocks from the historic market area with all the shopping and food you could want. Its less then a ten minute walk to the waterfront park. Perfect location for our time in Charleston!

Breakfast the next morning was delicious.  There were several options but we usually pick french toast or waffles in our house.

The Mills House was amazing and I would love to stay there again!  We left our bags after breakfast with the valet and that worked perfectly until it was time to head to the airport.
